Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled DevOps Engineer with a profound understanding of system internals to join our client's dynamic team.
This role is designed for an engineer who excels at ensuring high availability, optimizing performance, and maintaining reliability across production systems. You will be instrumental in debugging, managing traffic routing, and understanding system behavior under real-world conditions.
Your responsibilities will include designing and maintaining highly available systems, optimizing traffic routing with reverse proxies like Nginx, and diagnosing/resolving production issues across the entire request lifecycle. You will implement deployment strategies that minimize service disruption and proactively monitor system performance to identify and address bottlenecks.
A strong foundation in systems and networking, including hands-on experience with Nginx, DNS, and HTTP/HTTPS, is essential. You should also possess experience with zero-downtime deployment strategies and a solid understanding of backend services and database performance tuning for MySQL or PostgreSQL.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain highly available systems with zero or minimal downtime
- Manage and optimize traffic routing using reverse proxies (e.g. Nginx)
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across the full request lifecycle (frontend → backend → database)
- Implement deployment strategies that avoid service disruption without relying solely on orchestration tools
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify bottlenecks
- Investigate and resolve database performance issues (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system reliability and performance
- Handle incident response and root cause analysis in production environments
Qualifications
- Strong Systems & Networking Fundamentals: Deep understanding of how web requests flow across systems.
- Hands-on experience with reverse proxies like Nginx (routing, proxying, load balancing).
- Solid grasp of DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and network-level debugging.
- Zero-Downtime & Deployment Understanding: Experience implementing zero-downtime or low-downtime deployments.
- Ability to design solutions using existing infrastructure (e.g. multiple instances, traffic shifting).
- Understanding of rolling updates or blue-green deployments without relying entirely on Kubernetes.
- Backend / Application Awareness: Ability to understand backend services (APIs, request handling, service communication).
- Experience working with or supporting backend systems (Node.js, Java, Python, etc.).
- Database Fundamentals (Critical): Strong working knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Ability to identify long-running queries, debug performance issues, and understand indexing and query optimization basics.
- Familiarity with query inspection and process monitoring.
- Observability & Debugging: Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.).
- Ability to debug real production issues, not just set up dashboards.
- Strong problem-solving approach under pressure.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes (not solely dependent on them).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Experience in fintech, gaming, or high-traffic environments.
- Exposure to security best practices (WAF, IAM, etc.).
