Job Description
Tether is seeking a dynamic and experienced DeFi Manager to drive the strategic deployment and expansion of our core assets—USDT, XAUT, and USAT—across the decentralized finance ecosystem. This critical role, reporting to the Head of Blockchain Expansion, is central to our mission of fostering financial inclusion and real-world utility through innovative digital finance solutions.
You will be responsible for defining and executing Tether's global DeFi strategy, with a keen focus on increasing active users and total net circulation. This includes end-to-end accountability for protocol strategy, designing efficient liquidity and incentive programs, robust risk management, leading a high-performing team, and managing a significant budget. Your expertise will be crucial in expanding the adoption and utility of XAUT, particularly as collateral and a store of value.
Success in this senior, high-impact role hinges on your deep DeFi expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and disciplined financial and operational execution. You will engage with key DeFi protocols, foundations, and ecosystem partners to negotiate integrations and strategic alliances, ensuring Tether remains at the forefront of digital finance innovation.

Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute Tether's global DeFi strategy for USDT, XAUT, and USAT, prioritizing use cases that drive active users and net circulation.
- Own the strategy for expanding XAUT adoption and utility in DeFi, including its use as collateral, a store of value, and a real-world asset primitive.
- Lead senior-level relationships with DeFi protocols, foundations, and ecosystem partners; negotiate integrations, incentives, and long-term strategic partnerships.
- Design, deploy, and manage liquidity and incentive programs with a focus on capital efficiency, sustainability, and measurable outcomes.
- Own and manage a significant DeFi budget, including creation, forecasting, spend approval, tracking, and ROI reporting.
- Contribute towards and develop a high-performing DeFi team, setting clear objectives, accountability, and execution standards.
- Establish robust frameworks for risk assessment, monitoring, escalation, and exit across supported DeFi protocols.
- Produce regular, senior-management–ready reporting on active users, net circulation, budget utilization, and protocol concentration/risk.
- Work cross-functionally with Economics, Legal, Compliance, Treasury, Business Development, and Communications to ensure alignment.
- Act as Tether’s internal authority on DeFi market structure, trends, and emerging risks.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in crypto or digital assets, with deep hands-on DeFi experience (crypto native).
- Proven experience leading and managing teams in a DeFi, crypto, or adjacent financial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to own and manage material budgets, including building reporting and accountability frameworks.
- Strong understanding of DeFi primitives: lending and borrowing markets, AMMs, liquidity provisioning, RWAs, tokenized assets, incentive and yield mechanisms.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to balance growth, risk, and capital efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Comfortable operating in a high-autonomy, high-responsibility global role.
