Job Description

Sunbeth Shipping Limited is seeking a dedicated HSE Officer to spearhead health, safety, and environmental initiatives across its extensive transport, haulage, and shipping operations.

This critical role involves developing and implementing robust HSE management systems, ensuring strict adherence to national and international regulations, and fostering a proactive safety culture throughout the organization. You will be instrumental in mitigating risks across fleet operations, depots, terminals, and potentially onboard vessels.

The HSE Officer will act as a key advisor to senior management, providing strategic direction and ensuring compliance with standards such as IMO, ILO, OSHA, FMCSA, and local transport authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review the company’s HSE policy, objectives, and performance targets.
  • Lead the HSE department and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Coordinate HSE activities across land transport, marine operations, logistics hubs, and maintenance facilities.
  • Represent the company in regulatory engagements, audits, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international HSE laws and regulations.
  • Conduct internal audits and manage external audits.
  • Oversee enterprise-wide risk assessments for high-risk activities.
  • Implement engineering, administrative, and PPE-based controls to mitigate operational risks.
  • Lead investigations into serious incidents, accidents, spills, or near-misses.
  • Apply formal methodologies to determine root causes and recommend systemic improvements.
  • Design and deliver targeted HSE training programs.
  • Promote behavioral safety programs and lead safety campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and organize emergency drills.
  • Work closely with fleet managers and marine superintendents to ensure vehicles and vessels meet safety and environmental standards.
  • Implement environmental protection measures related to fuel consumption, emissions, and waste disposal.
  • Maintain comprehensive HSE records and prepare performance dashboards for senior management.

Qualifications

  • Professional Requirements: Preferably hold one or more of the following: NEBOSH IGC/IDip, IOSH, OSHA 30, ISO 45001/14001 Lead Auditor, IEMA, or equivalent.
  • Additional maritime certifications (e.g., ISM, STCW) are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive HSE experience, with at least 1 year in transport, logistics, haulage, or shipping/maritime industry.
  • Proven experience managing HSE teams and multi-site operations.
