Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant to conduct a comprehensive review and update of our Psychosocial Support (PSS) Manual for the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) project in Borno, Nigeria. This critical role will ensure the manual is current, effective, and aligned with global MHPSS standards, evidence-based practices, and the realities of conflict-affected children.

The Consultant will engage with project staff, facilitators, child protection specialists, and other stakeholders to gather technical input and feedback. The goal is to create a practical, user-friendly manual that supports facilitators in providing high-quality psychosocial support to children affected by crisis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a desk review of the existing PSS Manual and related project documents.
  • Assess the relevance, effectiveness, and contextual suitability of the manual.
  • Benchmark the manual against global and national MHPSS/PSS standards.
  • Engage with stakeholders for technical input and feedback.
  • Incorporate children’s and adolescents’ perspectives ethically.
  • Review and update core psychosocial principles, approaches, and methodologies.
  • Revise and strengthen age-appropriate PSS activities.
  • Integrate gender equality, inclusion, and safeguarding principles.
  • Review and improve monitoring, evaluation, and learning tools.
  • Ensure the manual is practical and user-friendly.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in MHPSS programming in humanitarian or emergency contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, reviewing, or updating PSS manuals.
  • Strong knowledge of global PSS and MHPSS standards.
  • Proven understanding of gender equality, inclusion, and safeguarding.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and facilitation skills.
