Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Technical Officer to join our Global Health Security (GHS) team. This vital role will provide essential technical and operational support across several Nigerian states, focusing on enhancing disease surveillance and response capabilities.
In this position, you will play a key part in strengthening contact tracing and active case search initiatives for priority diseases. You will also be instrumental in gathering, analyzing, and sharing data related to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, ensuring seamless collaboration between FHI 360, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), state governments, and other partners.
Your responsibilities will include providing capacity building through technical assistance and training to state-level stakeholders. You will contribute to the design, implementation, monitoring, and improvement of GHS strategies to bolster outbreak preparedness, response, and overall health system resilience. Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with State Epidemiologists and DSNOs to strengthen surveillance systems, including contact tracing and active case search.
- Support the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, ensuring data quality and timeliness.
- Provide technical assistance to state-level stakeholders to improve disease surveillance and reporting mechanisms.
- Facilitate coordination between FHI 360, NCDC, state agencies, and other partners to enhance data sharing and alignment of surveillance activities.
- Develop and deliver capacity-building initiatives, including training for state and local surveillance officers on emerging and re-emerging infectious disease protocols.
- Assist in the development and adaptation of tools, templates, and materials for surveillance and data management.
- Monitor the implementation of emerging and re-emerging surveillance activities and provide regular progress reports.
- Support outbreak investigations and response activities as required, including field deployments.
- Promote adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) measures during surveillance and contact tracing activities.
- Establish and maintain productive collaborative relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Health Sciences, Social Sciences).
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in managing data collection and providing technical assistance.
- Demonstrated experience in emerging and re-emerging infectious disease surveillance activities.
- Extensive public health field experience in designing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on capacity building in multiple components (policy, communication, data management).
- Familiarity with Global Health Security (GHS) indicators and activities, particularly data collection, analysis, strategic data use, and reporting.
- Familiarity with international donor organizations, Nigerian public sector health systems, and non-governmental organizations.
- Experience with SORMAS and IDSR is essential and considered an added advantage.
- Demonstrated success in multicultural environments.
- Ability to travel within Nigeria for at least 25% of the time.
