Job Description
Valency Africa is seeking an exceptional and entrepreneurial Senior Procurement Manager – Sheanut to spearhead the establishment and growth of our Sheanut business across Nigeria. This is a unique opportunity to take full ownership of the entire value chain, from initial sourcing and procurement to sophisticated logistics, shipping, and local trading operations. You will be instrumental in building a robust and profitable Sheanut enterprise from the ground up, with potential expansion into other synergistic agricultural commodities.
As a key leader, you will leverage your deep understanding of the product and regional geography to cultivate strong supplier relationships, ensure operational excellence, and drive commercial success. This role demands a proactive approach, strategic vision, and the ability to lead diverse teams in a dynamic West African market.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the sourcing of Sheanut across West Africa, with a primary focus on Nigeria.
- Establish and oversee upcountry sourcing branches.
- Cultivate and maintain robust networks of suppliers, agents, and partners.
- Ensure procurement activities meet quality standards, are price-competitive, and align with processing requirements.
- Negotiate contracts effectively and manage procurement-related risks.
- Manage local physical trading operations and the entire procurement-to-shipping cycle.
- Collaborate with trading teams on inventory management, logistics, and contract execution.
- Ensure timely shipments and deliveries to both local and international buyers.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements.
- Track procured quality diligently and optimize costs through effective moisture management to enhance value.
- Oversee end-to-end logistics from origin to destination markets.
- Coordinate with shipping, warehousing, documentation, and clearing teams.
- Ensure strict compliance with regional regulations and trade norms.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, service providers, customers, and other key partners.
- Work closely with country and functional leadership to ensure full compliance across all operations.
- Maintain effective communication with West Africa product teams to align with regional strategy.
- Take an entrepreneurial lead in establishing the Sheanut business in Nigeria from inception.
- Develop and execute annual business plans, forecasts, and budgets for the Sheanut division.
- Evaluate and initiate raw rubber procurement in Nigeria and explore other synergistic products.
- Lead and mentor sourcing, procurement, trading, and operations teams, fostering a culture of performance, ownership, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Business Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 5 to 10+ years of proven experience in the Sheanut sector within West Africa, preferably Nigeria.
- Demonstrated track record in the origination of agricultural products from West Africa.
