Job Description

FRAD Foundation is seeking a dedicated WASH Officer to lead critical interventions in Gwoza LGA, Borno State. This role is pivotal in addressing the severe challenges of limited access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services impacting displaced persons and host communities.

You will be responsible for the effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WASH activities. This includes overseeing water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion campaigns. Your work will directly contribute to reducing waterborne diseases and improving overall community health, aligning with humanitarian standards and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement WASH activities including water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion in line with approved work plans.
  • Oversee construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of WASH facilities (boreholes, latrines, bathing shelters, handwashing stations).
  • Support hygiene promotion campaigns targeting IDPs and host communities.
  • Ensure community participation in WASH interventions, including WASH committees and local leadership.
  • Conduct needs assessments, site assessments, and feasibility studies for WASH interventions.
  • Provide on-site technical supervision to contractors and artisans.
  • Monitor water quality and sanitation conditions regularly.
  • Coordinate with relevant government departments (RUWASSA, LGA authorities), clusters, and partners.
  • Participate in WASH cluster meetings and coordination forums at LGA level.
  • Collaborate with other sector teams (Health, Nutrition, Protection, Shelter).
  • Track progress of project activities using FRAD’s MEAL tools and templates.
  • Collect, analyze, and report WASH activity data using approved tools.
  • Contribute to baseline, post-distribution monitoring, and evaluation exercises.
  • Ensure accountability to affected populations through feedback and complaints mechanisms.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity reports for internal and donor use.
  • Support MEAL teams during baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
  • Document success stories, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate field logistics, including transport, venue preparation, and distribution planning.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all distributions and activity attendance.
  • Support procurement processes in line with FRAD and donor guidelines.

Qualifications

  • HND, Bachelor’s degree or MSc is an added advantage in Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in WASH programming, preferably in humanitarian or emergency settings.
  • Experience working in Northeast Nigeria or conflict-affected areas is a strong advantage.
  • Proven experience supervising WASH construction and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri is an added advantage.
  • Willingness to work in remote, hard-to-reach areas under challenging conditions.
