Job Description

GHGSat is a global leader in greenhouse gas emissions intelligence, providing critical detection, measurement, and monitoring services to industrial and governmental clients worldwide. Leveraging our proprietary satellite and airborne sensors, combined with third-party data, we empower organizations to understand, control, and reduce their emissions.

Our unique capability lies in delivering high-resolution, local measurements of atmospheric methane and carbon dioxide from space. This technology allows for the precise identification of emission sources and the visualization and quantification of their impact. GHGSat's solutions are instrumental in helping clients address climate risks and achieve their emission reduction targets.

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Backend Software Developer, nicknamed the "Payload Planner," to join our dynamic team. Working within a multidisciplinary Agile Scrum environment, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and supporting software for satellite planning and scheduling. Your responsibilities will encompass software development, testing, data analysis, and contributing to the overall design and implementation of our software solutions. A strong understanding of data structures, databases, and data processing pipelines is essential, as is a passion for contributing to solutions for the environmental challenges facing our planet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop tools and applications to enhance satellite planning and scheduling processes.
  • Evaluate, deploy, develop, integrate, test, and maintain databases, data transformation frameworks, and APIs.
  • Optimize data structures, schemas, and queries for frequent use cases.
  • Develop, test, integrate, and deploy backend components of the platform.
  • Design system architecture in collaboration with the team and continuously evolve it.
  • Maintain and ensure the high availability of GHGSat's data platform.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and propose new initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with DevOps, Frontend, Backend, and Full Stack teams.

Qualifications

  • Solid computer science, software development, or related field background.
  • Demonstrated experience with Linux and Python.
  • Good command of databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Experience in designing scalable backend services and APIs (REST/GraphQL), event-driven architectures, microservices, and cloud deployment.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (K8s) is an asset.
  • Experience with Frontend technologies (TypeScript, React) is an asset.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Availability for scheduled on-call rotation and occasional support outside normal working hours, including weekends, to ensure operational continuity.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in similar functions.
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance.
