Job Description

Valard Construction is expanding its Telecommunications team and seeking a skilled Directional Driller to join us in Manitoba.

Reporting directly to the Crew Foreman, this role requires an experienced individual adept at operating telecommunications construction equipment. You will be responsible for the maintenance and care of machinery, ensuring a safe and secure work environment around your equipment.

This position involves 10-hour workdays with varied shifts. Candidates must be prepared to work in diverse climatic conditions, travel extensively, and be comfortable working in confined spaces and plant site environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment safely, efficiently, and appropriately.
  • Securely load and unload directional bore equipment without causing damage.
  • Install telecom structures and pedestals.
  • Place underground and overhead fiber and copper cables.
  • Couple conduit and pull various types of cables.
  • Participate actively in tailgate/tailboard meetings.
  • Complete driver's logbooks and conduct thorough trip inspections.
  • Maintain accurate daily drilling activity records.
  • Interpret project plans, diagrams, and locate information.
  • Provide assistance with labor activities as needed.
  • Operate power and motorized tools and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating construction equipment.
  • Proven experience in pulling trailers and operating bucket and digger trucks.
  • Possession of a valid Class 3A driver's license and an acceptable driver's abstract.
  • Understanding of utility locates and various ground conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours.
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude.
