Job Description

Oando Plc is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Completions & Intervention Engineering Manager to spearhead our well engineering operations. This critical role involves providing strategic and technical leadership for the design, planning, and execution of all well completions and intervention activities.

Your primary objective will be to ensure these operations are conducted safely, cost-effectively, and reliably, ultimately maximizing well productivity and reservoir recovery. You will be responsible for engineering assurance, rig intake and readiness, and the development of your team, ensuring strict adherence to Oando's standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve completion and intervention designs and programs for technical soundness, operational feasibility, and effective risk management.
  • Validate engineering calculations, tool string designs, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure appropriate selection of equipment, materials, and fluids for long-term well integrity and performance.
  • Confirm rig capability, operational readiness, and technical integrity of all equipment.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of completion and intervention engineers, focusing on competency development and succession planning.
  • Drive technical assurance, competency growth, and performance excellence within the team.
  • Manage manpower planning to ensure adequate engineering coverage.
  • Champion HSE compliance across all completion and intervention designs and programs.
  • Promote well control, integrity, and barrier assurance throughout all activities.
  • Guarantee compliance with company well engineering standards, HSE-MS, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations and integrate lessons learned across the organization.
  • Drive cost optimization while safeguarding operational reliability and well productivity.
  • Take ownership of AFE and cost control across all well projects.
  • Track and analyze well KPIs (NPT, ILT, cost per job, efficiency index) for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with subsurface, drilling, production, and other cross-functional teams to align well objectives.
  • Engage service companies, contractors, and vendors to ensure optimal performance and service quality.
  • Represent the completions and interventions function in asset planning and management meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, etc.) or a related discipline.
  • SPE/IADC-accredited completion design training.
  • 15–20+ years of experience in well engineering.
  • At least 7-10 years of experience specifically in completions and intervention.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership position managing completions and intervention engineering.
  • Proven experience in rig and rigless-based completions and intervention activities.
  • Proven experience in well integrity restoration and production enhancement projects.
  • Proven experience managing multi-rig programs in land or offshore operations.
  • Proven experience in cost optimization and contractor performance management.
  • Experience with sand control, HPHT completions, onshore operations, multilateral, and intelligent well systems.
  • Master’s degree in petroleum or reservoir engineering (Desirable).
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification (Desirable).
  • Exposure to digital completion design tools and advanced well monitoring systems (Desirable).
  • Strong strategic leadership & decision-making skills.
  • Strong safety leadership mindset.
  • Excellent communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage contractors and build win-win relationships.
  • Resilience and adaptability in dynamic project environments.
  • High integrity, accountability, and results orientation.
  • Advanced completion design knowledge (sand control, intelligent completions).
  • Well integrity assurance and regulatory compliance knowledge.
  • Completions and intervention cost and performance benchmarking expertise.
  • Strong well modelling, nodal analysis, and software skills (e.g., WellCat, Prosper).
  • Understanding of reservoir productivity and inflow performance relationships.
  • Expertise in fluids and materials selection (brines, elastomers, metallurgy).
  • Familiarity with drilling–completion interfaces (casing design, wellhead equipment).
  • Contractor and service company technical evaluation skills.
