Job Description
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our team in Abuja, Nigeria. This role is essential for supporting the Finance Unit, with a key focus on treasury services and the effective utilization of the READY system.
In this capacity, you will be responsible for processing payments, managing cash flow, and ensuring all financial transactions adhere to IFRC policies and procedures. Your meticulous approach will be vital in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial health of the cluster office.
You will also contribute to financial reporting, manage petty cash, and assist with month-end closure procedures. A significant part of this role involves supporting the Finance Manager in championing the READY system, including training colleagues and ensuring its efficient use for all financial processes.

Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Process cluster office payments in line with IFRC policies and procedures.
- Ensure prioritized processing of forecasted financial needs within available funds.
- Support cash flow management by alerting the Senior Finance Officer of movements.
- Act as custodian for the cluster office petty cash, ensuring adherence to policy and timely replenishment.
- Input all cash and bank data into the READY system on a monthly basis.
- Provide monthly reports on prepayment accounts and reconcile them to the balance sheet.
- Monitor staff private expenses and ensure timely refunds.
- Perform month-end petty cash reconciliation and verify with system account statements.
- Conduct month-end bank reconciliations and verify with the Senior Finance Officer.
- Support the Finance Manager in championing and training the team on the READY system.
- Perform lease accounting procedures as per IFRS 16, including booking anticipated lease periods and payments.
- Assist in month-end closure procedures, including lease allocation checklists and reconciliations.
- Aid in the communication and enforcement of financial policies and procedures, particularly on treasury matters.
- Ensure the management of an efficient e-filing system within the Finance Unit.
- Advise staff on travel and management within the system.
- Undertake any other official duties assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Banking, Finance, or any relevant field.
- At least 2-3 years of experience working in a Finance department.
- Considerable good knowledge and interaction with the READY system (IFRC ERP systems).
- Experience in managing data, filing, and basic financial and budgetary information.
- Proven excellence in administrative support.
- Experience working within an RC National Society and/or the Federation Secretariat (Preferred).
- Practical knowledge of computers (Windows, Spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail).
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
- Flexibility.

- Organized and self-starter in work prioritizing.
