Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Fresh Food Department Manager to lead our operations in this vital sector. This role is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of quality, freshness, and presentation across our butchery, bakery, deli, and produce sections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the effective running of all fresh food operations, including butchery, bakery, deli, and produce sections.
  • Take ownership of revenue and profit optimizations for all fresh food departments, including food costing and pricing strategies as approved by the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure the availability of quality products on display and maintain the highest standards of freshness, presentation, and taste. Oversee product range selection and rotation.
  • Contribute to new product development, recipe review, and improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Operations Manager – Fresh Food.
  • Ensure full compliance with HACCP standards and all relevant public health and food service regulations. Monitor the cold chain and ensure optimal functionality of refrigeration, cold rooms, and fresh food equipment.
  • Conduct regular market surveys to identify products the Buyer should source and provide pricing insights to drive sales and meet corporate objectives.
  • Supervise and mentor Fresh Food Trainee Managers and team members in line with training and development plans. Foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
  • Responsible for standards setting, compliance management, and ensuring all processes align with company policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of B.Sc./ HND in Food Science or related
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in similar role
  • Must have NYSC Discharged/Exemption or Exclusion letter
  • Proven experience in fresh food management (e.g., butchery, bakery, deli, or produce) within a retail or hospitality environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety regulations, and cold chain management.
  • Experience in food costing, pricing, and profit optimization.
  • Creative mindset with experience in recipe development and product innovation.
  • Excellent leadership and people development skills.
  • Strong analytical skills for market surveys and pricing analysis.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
