Job Description

We are seeking a proactive Department Manager to oversee our Non-Food and Ambient departments. You will play a key role in supporting the Branch Manager to optimize daily operations, ensuring excellent product availability and maximizing sales. This position is crucial for achieving target profit margins and championing quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence within your department.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring effective department operations, managing merchandise ordering and replenishment for 100% shelf availability, and overseeing the movement of goods. You will also take ownership of revenue and profit optimization, rigorously monitor damaged and expired goods, and ensure the highest standards of quality for Ambient and Non-Food products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the effective running of department operations.
  • Guarantee that merchandise is ordered and replenished in good time to achieve 100% shelf availability.
  • Oversee the movement of goods from the back store to the shop floor.
  • Take ownership of revenue and profit optimization for the department.
  • Assist the Branch Manager in achieving sales targets and driving year-on-year growth.
  • Monitor damaged and expired goods rigorously to minimize losses and control shrinkage.
  • Ensure the highest standards of quality for Ambient and Non-Food products.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and ensure accurate retail selling prices are displayed with updated labels.
  • Conduct regular market surveys to identify new sourcing opportunities and provide competitive pricing insights to the Buyer to drive sales.
  • Supervise and support crew training in line with development plans, ensuring the team meets the evolving needs of the business.
  • Drive product range selection, rotation, and ensure standards are consistently maintained.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of B.Sc./ HND in any related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of retail experience
  • Must have NYSC Discharged, Exemption or Exclusion letter
  • Proven experience in retail management, specifically within Non-Food, Ambient or grocery categories.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, profit margins, and shrinkage control.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting market surveys and pricing analysis.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance in retail environments.
