Job Description

The British Council is offering an exceptional opportunity for a talented graduate to join our team as an IT Intern in Lagos.

This internship provides a vital experiential learning pathway, designed to equip you with real-world IT experience that complements your academic background. You will play a crucial role in implementing, maintaining, and monitoring our Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Nigeria's main offices.

Working closely with the ICT Officer and Country ICT Manager, you will contribute to providing efficient IT services, ensuring seamless access and support for our staff. This role is essential for meeting our business objectives, strategic goals, and the aspirations of the Country Plan, while significantly boosting your employability skills within a dynamic international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understudy and learn IT processes and vendor management through interaction with IT staff.
  • Provide basic administrative support for IT-related activities.
  • Ensure timely first- and second-level IT support for seamless operations.
  • Escalate problems/issues to relevant teams and follow up to facilitate effective communication to end-users.
  • Support the implementation of local IT projects in conjunction with GIS / the Nigeria ICT team.
  • Assist with administration, implementation, and upgrades of the overall ICT environment (hardware, software, infrastructure) in line with corporate strategy and best practices.
  • Ensure 24/7 availability of Local Area Network (LAN) and Internet connectivity.
  • Monitor server (MS 2016) logs, services, performance, and disk space, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure systems are secured from external threats like hacking/virus attacks, including regular software compliance checks.
  • Ensure restricted access to server rooms and physical security of IT equipment.
  • Organize and implement routine weekly/monthly/quarterly IT checklist exercises.
  • Implement approved updates/upgrades within agreed timeframes, ensuring minimal service disruption and appropriate staff communication.
  • Ensure "correct first time" installation of standard and approved software.
  • Enhance business processes through suggestions for improvements and new functionality.
  • Manage the IT inventory (software and hardware).
  • Manage the Wi-Fi access network.

Qualifications

  • Graduate-level or second-degree education in Computer Science or a related IT discipline.
  • A minimum of two years' relevant work experience post-NYSC is required.
  • Proficiency in English Language (written and spoken).
  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated interest in ICT.
  • Knowledge and experience in hardware and software support.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with Service Desk Support.
  • Familiarity with operating systems.
  • IT Support skills.
  • IT security awareness.
  • IT Asset Management.
  • Technical documentation skills.
