Job Description

The British Council is offering a valuable experiential learning opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical, real-world experience through an internship program.

This internship is designed to complement theoretical knowledge acquired during academic studies, providing interns with the chance to both learn from and contribute to the workplace. The primary goal is to enhance employability skills, ultimately making graduates more successful in their future careers.

The Facilities team is integral to the British Council's operations, responsible for the effective and efficient planning and management of all facilities, resources, and fleet. This role specifically focuses on the day-to-day facilities operations of the Kano office, offering the intern hands-on experience in Facilities Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understudy and learn Facilities processes, leadership, stakeholder and vendor management through interactions with the Facilities Staff in location.
  • Assist the Facilities Team in-country in managing the Kano facilities and estate effectively and efficiently, as defined in the Regional and Country Delivery Plans.
  • Support the proactive maintenance management of the Kano office and compound by undertaking daily checks of facilities and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Help maintain the office and estate by supporting security arrangements and ensuring the delivery of quality customer care services within the Facilities Unit.
  • Support the day-to-day coordination of facilities services and project activities, ensuring relevant and timely reports are submitted to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist the Facilities Team with the coordination of facilities and building improvement activities and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support successful completion.
  • Provide logistical support to visitors coming to Kano.
  • Support the planning and management of vehicles and drivers to ensure effective transport support for British Council operations.

Qualifications

  • Graduate-level education in any field
  • Graduated within the last four years
  • Demonstrate fluency in written and spoken English
  • Be computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrate an interest in Facilities Management.
