ExxonMobil is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Specialist to join our team in Lagos State. This critical role demands a subject matter expert with a profound understanding of safety, health, and environmental (SHE) requirements, coupled with regional regulatory compliance.
As a Mechanical Specialist, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe and effective planning and execution of maintenance, construction, and project initiatives. You will serve as a site expert, providing invaluable technical guidance and mentorship across the organization, influencing operational excellence and maintaining the highest standards of equipment integrity.

Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical discipline, ensuring strong understanding and adherence to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) and regional regulatory requirements.
- Provide expert guidance for the safe and effective planning and execution of maintenance, construction, and project activities.
- Act as a site expert in processes, procedures, technical matters, and equipment relevant to the area of expertise.
- Offer support and guidance for design reviews and assist engineering teams with routine maintenance, Turnaround (TA) activities, and new project support.
- Influence without direct authority, fostering effective interactions with operations, maintenance, and engineering organizations.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and network within the organization.
- Serve as a mentor, providing specialized expertise and guidance across the broader organizational structure.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to adapt, demonstrate creativity, and foster innovation in problem-solving.
- A thorough understanding and ability to identify workplace hazards, coupled with strong analytical skills and courage of conviction.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and interact effectively with operations and maintenance organizations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse groups and effective networking within organizations.
- Previous FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) experience is highly preferred.
- Good knowledge of Instrumentation and Mechanical systems, including hands-on skills for basic repairs, routine maintenance, and equipment adjustments.
- Ability to read and interpret transmitters, sensors, gauges, and control valves, with familiarity in ESD (Emergency Shutdown) and Fire & Gas (F&G) systems and their role in process safety.
- Versatility with basic Work Management Practices and CMMS (SAP) for raising notifications, managing work orders, and searching for materials.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting supplier/manufacturer documents to identify appropriate spare parts and understanding technical and instruction manuals.
- Specific technical knowledge of Gas & Diesel generators, various types of Pumps (including submersible), Compressors, Pipe work, HVAC equipment, Electrical drive motors, and all types of Process and Utilities valves.
- Exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to observe equipment performance, detect abnormalities, maintain accurate maintenance logs and reports, and identify/mitigate workplace hazards.
