Job Description
Join McKinsey & Company as a Specialist in Petroleum Asset eXcellence and play a pivotal role in transforming energy assets and enhancing operational performance for leading clients.
In this dynamic role, you will provide critical energy-specific expertise, directly contributing to the increased value of energy assets and the turnaround of operational performance. You will be an integral part of McKinsey's renowned advisory team, specializing in areas such as reservoir/well management, drilling, production optimization, onshore/offshore operations, and the energy transition.
You will collaborate closely with client teams, integrating with existing asset teams to address current business challenges, maximize asset value, and improve capabilities. This position offers the opportunity to not only advise but also to lead internal knowledge-building initiatives, client workshops, and conferences.
Based in our Lagos office, you will work within the Petroleum Asset eXcellence (PAX) unit of McKinsey's Oil & Gas practice. Your responsibilities will include working on client energy operations, transformation, and improvement programs, engaging directly with key client stakeholders. You will develop and present recommendations based on thorough analysis and coach clients through implementation and change processes.
This role involves working with energy companies across their entire spectrum of activities, from maximizing upstream reserve potential to supporting new ventures like Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage (CCUS) and hydrogen in the evolving energy landscape.

Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Provide energy-specific expertise to client teams.
- Increase the value of energy assets and improve operational performance.
- Advise on reservoir/well management, drilling, production optimization, and energy transition.
- Integrate with client asset teams to address business and performance challenges.
- Lead or participate in internal knowledge-building initiatives, conferences, and client workshops.
- Develop and provide recommendations based on findings.
- Support and coach clients in driving implementation and change.
- Work with energy companies on upstream reserves, assets, and new energy businesses (CCUS, hydrogen).
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering or a closely related specialty.
- Master's degree or PhD is highly advantageous.
- 7+ years of experience working within an oil & gas company (operator or service provider/OFSC).
- Upstream focused experience (e.g., reservoir engineering, production optimization, drilling, completions, well intervention, facilities).
- Strong business insight and impressive career development.
- Outstanding performance track record.
- Proven track record of participating in or leading successful change management projects with a focus on capability building.
- Experience participating in or leading operational improvement projects.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
