Job Description
Slum2School Africa is seeking a dedicated Finance and Accounting Manager to lead our financial operations and procurement activities. This critical role ensures effective financial management, accurate budgeting, transparent reporting, and compliance with all relevant regulations. You will also strategically source goods and services to support the organization's mission and operations, playing a pivotal part in our financial sustainability and growth.
As the Finance & Accounting Manager, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing financial policies, procedures, and controls. You will prepare and manage the organization’s budget, monitor financial performance, and provide regular reports to the management team. Financial analysis and forecasting will support strategic decision-making and resource allocation, while cash flow management and banking relationships will be key responsibilities.
The role involves developing and implementing procurement strategies for cost-effective sourcing, overseeing the entire procurement process, and devising up-to-date accounting systems. You will maintain accurate records, collaborate with internal departments on procurement needs, and ensure timely processing of all payments. Directing the preparation of financial statements and ensuring compliance with tax laws and financial regulations are also core duties.

- Oversee and manage the financial operations and procurement activities of the organization.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls.
- Prepare and manage the organization’s budget, monitor financial performance, and provide regular financial reports.
- Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and timely disbursement of funds.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for cost-effective and timely sourcing of goods and services.
- Oversee the procurement process, including supplier selection, negotiation, contracting, and vendor management.
- Devise and implement up-to-date or modified accounting systems.
- Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, contracts, and supplier agreements.
- Collaborate with internal departments to identify procurement needs and develop procurement plans.
- Process all payments efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Direct the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Coordinate with auditors and regulatory authorities.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic planning and fundraising efforts.
- Monitor expenditures, analyze revenues, and determine budget variances.
- Supervise and mentor finance and procurement staff.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure financial and procurement processes align with organizational goals.
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the team.
- Motivate team members to achieve organizational goals.
- Identify and empower team members by providing opportunities for growth.
- Measure and report on team performance.
- Ensure the growth of the team as well as the efficient and timely onboarding and offboarding of team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 5 years+ of professional experience involving the application of finance and accounting principles at a managerial or supervisory level.
- Proficiency in different accounting packages like QuickBooks, Sage Pastel, and Tally.
- Demonstrated ability to identify financial challenges, analyze options, and propose practical solutions.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling procurement processes.
- Proficient in accounting principles and practices, including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Ability to develop and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Familiarity with procurement regulations, procedures, and best practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Self-starter who takes initiative, uses sound, independent judgment, and discretion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with concern for detail and a commitment to rigor.
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights into financial performance.
