You will be responsible for supporting critical education-specific platforms such as TASS, Synergetic, Schoolbox, and Canvas. Your duties will include managing backups, optimizing performance through query tuning, and implementing robust disaster recovery strategies. Collaboration with internal teams, clients, and vendors will be key to troubleshooting integration issues and driving improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain databases (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL) to ensure performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Configure and manage backups, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, and migrations, and optimize performance through query tuning and effective indexing.
  • Provide database support for key education systems including TASS, Synergetic, Schoolbox, Edval, Clipboard, EnrolHQ, SEQTA, and Canvas.
  • Collaborate with application vendors to troubleshoot integration and performance issues.
  • Support business intelligence platforms, including Power BI and SSRS reporting services.
  • Implement and manage access controls and audit logging in line with privacy and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor for vulnerabilities and apply patches to safeguard data integrity.
  • Work closely with developers, analysts, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Document configurations, changes, and maintenance activities, and maintain data dictionaries and ER diagrams.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for database and application lifecycles.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar Data Engineer or Analyst role.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2014+), SAP Crystal Reports, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • MySQL experience is desirable.
  • Experience managing and supporting Education Systems (TASS, Synergetic, Edval).
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation for maintenance tasks.
  • Understanding of data privacy and security requirements in the education sector.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to IT and non-IT stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and a commitment to meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment to prioritize accordingly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, intellectual rigor, and curiosity, and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • A valid Vulnerable People / Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Police Check are required.
