Job Description

Stio is seeking a highly analytical and proactive Data Analyst to join our growing Data & Analytics team. This pivotal role involves expanding our data-driven decision-making capabilities across the organization.

As a full-stack, horizontal analyst, you will engage with data infrastructure, including ingestion, modeling, and transformation. Your responsibilities will extend to comprehensive analysis, business intelligence development, and direct collaboration with key stakeholders across Finance, Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Inventory Planning, and B2B departments.

You will operate within a modern data stack featuring Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, Power BI, and GitHub, with increasing reliance on Python, SQL, and R. Our team embraces AI-assisted development, utilizing tools like Claude Code for collaborative coding, review, and iteration. While expertise in AI tooling is not required, a strong foundation in data and modeling intuition is essential to ensure the accuracy and trustworthiness of AI-generated outputs.

We are looking for an individual who can connect data insights to broader business objectives and translate analysis into actionable strategies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation, a keen eagerness to learn, sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and a genuine desire to drive positive progress within Stio.

This is a remote position, reporting to the Director of Data & Analytics within the Finance department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with stakeholders across the business (Product Development, Marketing, DTC, B2B, Finance, Operations, Inventory Planning) to translate ambiguous questions into well-defined analyses, dashboards, and data products.
  • Build and maintain dbt models that turn raw source-system data into trustworthy, well-documented datasets, including writing tests and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain the semantic context, dashboards, and reports used by the business for day-to-day operations.
  • Own metric definitions and business semantics, driving alignment when stakeholders disagree on definitions or numbers.
  • Review and harden AI-generated SQL, dbt models, and Python code, applying judgment to catch issues that pass tests but are semantically wrong.
  • Investigate ambiguous data questions by talking to source-system owners, investigating edge cases, reconciling conflicting definitions, and improving the business model.
  • Help build and maintain Stio’s data infrastructure (Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, GitHub, Power BI, R, Python) and contribute to decisions about stack evolution.
  • Improve data governance by creating useful documentation that AI agents can consume as context for future work.
  • Continuously develop skills as the practice of data analytics evolves.

Qualifications

  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including CTEs, window functions, and comfort wrangling messy data.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, including writing models, tests, and documentation.
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, Microsoft Fabric, or similar).
  • Version control with Git/GitHub as part of normal workflow.
  • Experience as a developer with at least one BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Omni, or similar).
  • A strong point of view on AI-assisted development for analytics work, understanding its strengths and weaknesses.
  • History of building collaborative, trusting relationships with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort presenting findings to leadership verbally, in writing, and visually.
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or R for analysis (preferred).
  • Experience with Stio's data stack components (Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, GitHub, Power BI, Python, R, Claude Code, Codex) (preferred).
  • Experience with systems like NetSuite, Shopify, Google Analytics, Segment, Klaviyo (preferred).
  • Professional experience at a DTC or omni-channel retail, apparel, footwear, or outdoor company (preferred).
