Job Description
Union Maritime is assembling a dedicated Strategic Intelligence team to spearhead alpha generation across current and future shipping markets. This role is pivotal in constructing the engine for our data infrastructure, bridging the gap between shipping, commodities data, and actionable commercial insights. The primary objective is to ensure a bulletproof data foundation and framework, enabling the Head of Strategic Intelligence and commercial leaders to focus on executing high-alpha trading strategies.
Key responsibilities include taking ownership of proprietary commercial data cleaning, structuring, and maintenance, transforming disparate market feeds into a cohesive platform for rapid value identification. You will also contribute to building and automating market information scanning and interpretation, taking ownership of pipelines and introducing new data sources. Furthermore, you will provide technical support for statistical models, ensuring data conformity and rigor for strategic trading decisions, and develop tools to track the P&L impact of data-driven insights.

Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of cleaning, structuring, and maintaining proprietary commercial data.
- Transform disparate market feeds into a clean platform for rapid value identification.
- Build and automate market information scanning and interpretation.
- Take ownership of market information pipelines and introduce new data sources.
- Assist in running statistical models and ensuring data conformity for strategic trading decisions.
- Develop and build tools to track the P&L contribution of data and model insights.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years in a data-heavy role within a Nigerian Tier-1 bank, Fintech, or a global consultancy.
- Fluency with Python is a must.
- Proficiency in SQL databases.
- Experience building data pipelines.
- Experience integrating structured and unstructured datasets.
- Experience with data validation and testing.
- Experience with NLP modelling and implementation.
- Mindset of a builder, enjoying innovative processes to make data more usable.
- Eagerness to continuously improve solutions.
- Ability to learn shipping fundamentals and dynamics quickly and adapt to new environments.
