Job Description

Sezzle is seeking an exceptional Principal Data Engineer to join our rapidly growing team and play a pivotal role in shaping our data infrastructure. This position offers a significant opportunity to own and advance our data warehousing capabilities, ensuring we can effectively manage and leverage our increasing data volumes.

You will be instrumental in designing, building, and optimizing large-scale data pipelines and architecting our data ecosystem for enhanced reliability and scalability. This includes evolving our current stack, which heavily utilizes Redshift, DBT, and AWS DMS, and exploring new technologies to handle high-volume event processing and complex ETL/ELT operations.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-end ownership of data warehousing infrastructure, KPIs, and SLAs.
Design, build, and optimize large-scale, high-performance data pipelines.
Architect and evolve Sezzle’s data ecosystem for reliability and scalability.
Lead the development of ETL/ELT workflows using Redshift, DBT, and AWS DMS.
Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver high-quality datasets.
Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance the data stack.
Optimize Redshift and warehouse performance, including query tuning and cost management.

Qualifications

12+ years of experience in data engineering with a track record of building and scaling production systems.
Deep expertise with AWS Redshift or similar products (performance tuning, table design, workload management).
Strong hands-on experience with ETL/ELT frameworks (DBT, AWS DMS, or similar).
Proficiency in advanced SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Scala, Java).
Experience building and maintaining AWS-based data platforms (S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR).
Track record designing scalable, fault-tolerant data pipelines using modern orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect).
Strong understanding of data modeling, distributed systems, and warehouse/lake design patterns.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with excellent communication skills.
