Job Description

Join Airbnb's Search and Personalization Data Science team as a Staff Data Scientist and play a pivotal role in shaping how guests discover unique stays worldwide. This remote position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of search technology, developing innovative models and data products that enhance relevance and drive marketplace health.

You will be responsible for building sophisticated ranking models, designing rigorous experimentation frameworks, and creating scalable data products that power search and recommendation systems. Your contributions will directly influence the guest experience and the long-term success of Airbnb's global marketplace.

As a Staff-level leader, you will also set technical direction, mentor fellow data scientists, and foster cross-functional collaboration to drive impactful search improvements and guide product strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop models and analytical frameworks to improve listing ranking and recommendation, incorporating marketplace dynamics.
  • Design experiments and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of search and AI-driven product improvements.
  • Build scalable data products and modeling pipelines for ranking features, query understanding, and personalization.
  • Partner with Relevance Engineering and Product teams to launch high-impact search improvements.
  • Set technical direction for modeling and experimentation in Search and Personalization.
  • Mentor other data scientists and contribute to building durable data products.
  • Connect marketplace thinking, modeling, and experimentation across teams to guide product strategy.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field.
  • 9+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong fluency in Python or R for hands-on work.
  • Proficiency in SQL for advanced data analysis at scale.
  • Experience with causal inference and machine learning techniques, ideally in a multi-sided platform setting.
  • Proven ability to succeed in collaborative and independent work environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to present to diverse technical audiences.
