Job Description

Seven-Up Bottling Company Limited is seeking a highly qualified Senior Legal Counsel to uphold the company's legal and ethical integrity. This role is paramount in ensuring that all business operations and procedures align with current legal regulations and internal policies.

You will be responsible for developing and assessing the effectiveness of control systems designed to prevent legal violations. This includes conducting regular audits of company processes, identifying compliance risks in future ventures, and collaborating with various departments, including corporate counsel and HR, to monitor enforcement of standards.

The Senior Legal Counsel will also manage pre-litigation disputes, address consumer complaints, maintain trademark records, and ensure intellectual property protection. A key aspect of this role involves providing expert legal advice on regulatory and ethical compliance, intellectual property, property management, and contract matters at the plant level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, oversee, and evaluate control systems to prevent or resolve violations of legal guidelines and internal policies.
  • Regularly assess the efficiency of control systems and recommend improvements.
  • Perform regular audits on company procedures and processes, revising them when necessary.
  • Assess the business’s future ventures to identify likely compliance risks.
  • Coordinate with different department managers to review all departmental compliance policies.
  • Collaborate with corporate counsels and HR departments to monitor enforcement of standards and regulations.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory developments and evolving best practices in compliance control.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies.
  • Resolve all disputes at the pre-litigation/arbitration/mediation stages.
  • Address consumer complaints.
  • Maintain the company’s trademark records and ensure intellectual property protection.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in areas such as factory operations, engineering, projects, and product standards.
  • Provide legal advice at the plant level on regulatory and ethical compliance, intellectual property, property management, and contract matters.
  • Draft and review plant-level contracts.

Qualifications

  • Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
  • At least 10 years of post-call experience.
  • Industry Skills: Product development and regulation, product liability, advocacy and engagement, illicit trade, trade and distribution, marketing, manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of Nigerian legal frameworks and corporate governance.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal matters and provide strategic advice.
  • Experience in intellectual property law and property law is highly desirable.
