Job Description

Lockwood Publishing is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Backend team. This role is crucial for building and scaling the systems that power Avakin Life, a popular 3D virtual world with millions of users globally.

You will be instrumental in ensuring the team collaborates effectively to develop scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems. The position emphasizes a dev-ops culture, thorough testing, and continuous improvement of development processes.

This is a fully remote position, based within the EU/UK. While primarily remote, occasional meetups may occur for social interaction and strategic sessions.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in software engineering.
Professional understanding of agile concepts and processes.
Good knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Solid grasp of dev-ops concepts and processes.
Effective time management and estimation skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills.
Ability to adapt to change with resilience.
Understanding of back-end development best practices.
Strong expertise in backend development primarily in Golang, but also with languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, or C#.
Deep understanding of microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed computing.
Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization tools (Docker).
Advanced knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
Strong background in designing scalable, high-performance systems.
Experience in the gaming industry or large-scale interactive systems (Desirable).
Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar (Desirable).
Proficiency with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack (Desirable).
Experience with AI/ML integration in backend systems (Desirable).
