Job Description
Maven Consulting Limited is seeking a dedicated Construction Officer to oversee substation projects in remote locations. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract role offering a fly-in/fly-out work arrangement.
In this position, you will be instrumental in managing all phases of construction, from civil works to equipment installation and commissioning. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in strict adherence to client procedures and industry standards.
You will lead on-site contractor coordination, review and implement safety plans, and manage project documentation. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication with all stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and project management.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee construction activities across all project phases, including civil works, equipment installation, and commissioning at a remote brownfield diesel power generation facility
- Lead on-site contractor coordination and ensure compliance with client company's procedures, safety policies, and safe work practices
- Review, implement, and update project safety plans and risk assessments in collaboration with contractors
- Manage and coordinate testing and commissioning activities
- Ensure all work complies with construction and contract management standards, including applicable safety requirements
- Confirm construction materials are delivered, complete, and compliant with approved designs and specifications
- Coordinate construction delivery, including progress tracking, change management, and deficiency resolution
- Prepare and submit daily site reports and maintain accurate project documentation
- Participate in daily tailboard meetings and ensure timely incident reporting and follow-up
- Maintain regular communication with contractors, plant operations, and the project manager regarding progress and changes
- Liaise with engineers, professionals of record, and project stakeholders to identify and resolve site issues
- Provide technical input and respond to construction-related inquiries
- Support site logistics coordination, including charter flight planning and alignment with plant operations
- Assist with minor site or camp maintenance activities as required (training provided)
- Work extended hours (up to 12 hours per day, 7 days per week) based on project needs
Qualifications
- Diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology, a relevant trade certification, apprenticeship courses, or equivalent working experience
- Minimum 7 years of construction or site monitoring experience, preferably in remote or industrial environments
- Strong experience in contractor coordination and construction oversight
- Proven ability to enforce safety procedures and implement project safety plans and risk assessments
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements (WSCC Supervisor OHS Familiarization required)
- Valid First Aid certification
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Effective communication skills with contractors and project stakeholders
- Experience with daily reporting and site documentation
- Ability to work extended hours (up to 12 hours/day, 7 days/week) in remote site conditions
- Comfortable travelling and working in adverse weather conditions or at heights/underground
- Comfortable working in remote Northwest Territories locations, including camp-based or rotational settings
- Willingness to complete required safety and work protection training (post-hire)
- Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
