Job Description
Layer3 is seeking an experienced Application & IT Support Engineer to join our innovative team in Abuja.
This role is crucial for ensuring the end-to-end operational efficiency, reliability, and security of our on-premises infrastructure, applications, and end-user technologies. You will oversee datacenter operations, virtualization platforms, cloud services, cybersecurity controls, and DevOps/MLOps workflows.
Your responsibilities will include leading the design, deployment, and maintenance of our on-premises infrastructure, managing enterprise storage, backup systems, and business continuity mechanisms. You will also administer Microsoft 365 services, deploy and manage cloud-hosted enterprise applications, and drive organization-wide VAPT remediation and security hardening.
Furthermore, you will coordinate DevOps and MLOps programs, support backend engineering, and manage codebase consolidation. The role also involves leading data analytics functions, implementing advanced infrastructure monitoring, and overseeing centralized IT support operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, deployment, optimization, and maintenance of Layer3’s on-premises infrastructure.
- Manage enterprise storage (SAN/NAS), backup systems, RAID architectures, and business continuity mechanisms.
- Oversee server power management, datacenter audits, hardware lifecycle, and compliance with PCI-DSS/ISO standards.
- Implement and manage the Proxmox VE virtualization environment, including clustering, workload migrations, VM lifecycle, and enterprise backups via PBS.
- Execute recovery, restoration, and repurposing of enterprise servers, storage arrays, and critical infrastructure hardware.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services: SharePoint, Exchange Online, Purview, Admin Center, OneDrive, and Teams.
- Conduct license optimization, configure email security (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), and automate Outlook backup processes.
- Deploy and manage cloud-hosted enterprise applications such as Odoo ERP, QuickBooks, internal business platforms and other third party services on the Cloud.
- Conduct testing, UAT, staff training on new platforms and identified knowledge gaps while ensuring adherence to policies within the portfolio’s purview.
- Drive organization-wide VAPT remediation and security hardening across infrastructure and applications.
- As the custodian of all organizations Applications, the incumbent will be responsible for deploying SentinelOne, BitLocker, Cloudflare WAF, other endpoint security controls and applications.
- Lead IAM transformation initiatives and coordinate full staff office work tools and software migrations with zero downtime.
- Oversee certificate and license management, domain security, API key rotation, and secure application practices.
- Coordinate and manage the software development for both DevOp and MLOps programs for the organization.
- Support backend engineering for Layer3Pay, mobile API integrations, and SMS automation systems.
- Manage codebase consolidation and the code-change management workflow using GitHub to strengthen CI/CD readiness.
- Engineer automation tools and scripts (AI/ML-assisted chatbots, SSL expiry monitoring, and workflow automations).
- Lead the data analytics function by coordinating analysts across units to deliver unified operational dashboards, performance insights, and decision-support reports for management.
- Build and maintain automated dashboards and data pipelines that integrate information from multiple business units, enabling trend analysis, service optimization, and organization-wide visibility.
- Provide senior leadership with actionable insights through analytics reviews, reporting packs, and visualization-driven intelligence covering operational efficiency, service quality, and strategic KPIs.
- Lead the implementation and enhancement of Zabbix, Wazuh, Prometheus, Grafana, and SNMP templates for system monitoring and accountability.
- Develop custom monitoring templates promote monitoring system usability and contextualization.
- Maintain advanced infrastructure monitoring dashboards and customer-facing observability platforms.
- Oversee centralized IT support operations using a SharePoint-based ticketing system, ensuring SLA compliance and workflow automation.
- Lead intra-unit service desk optimization, escalation workflows, asset inventory modernization, and hardware lifecycle management for Application and ITSupport services and products.
- Manage laptop procurement, configuration, repair, and deployment of laptops, conferencing systems, and VoIP devices.
- Train and mentor engineers in virtualization, Proxmox, Python, Power BI, networking, and engineering best practices.
- Participate in corporate committees including Risk Assessment, Project Steering Committee, and R&D initiatives.
- Provide the CTO with weekly and quarterly KPI dashboards covering IT Support, Infrastructure and Software Development operations.
- Oversee strategic projects including VoIP deployment, server-based controllers, server installations, and emerging operational initiatives.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through platform migrations, tooling consolidation, and operational efficiency improvements.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in IT Support & Applications or a related role.
- Proficiency in Windows, macOS, and Linux Operating Systems; knowledge of network protocols and configurations.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, Vmware, Comptia, MSCDBA etc) are a plus.
- Experience in designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
- Experience in cybersecurity hardening and endpoint protection.
- Experience with ITSM, SLA Management & Service Desk Operations.
- Experience with Backup / DR / BCP Engineering.
- Experience with Application Support (Odoo, QuickBooks, Custom Apps).
- Experience with DevOps & MLOps (CI/CD, GitHub, Automation).
- Experience with Network Monitoring (Zabbix, Wazuh, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Leadership, Training & Team Development skills.
