Job Description

We are actively seeking a Lead Engineer to serve as the engineering player-coach for a live client engagement. This role requires a hands-on approach to C++ and Unreal Engine development, alongside setting technical direction, mentoring project engineers, and collaborating directly with clients and producers on critical technical decisions.

Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Write, review, and own C++ code on the engagement
- Build and maintain core gameplay, engine, or systems components
- Unblock engineers on the team by providing architectural guidance and debugging support
- Conduct performance profiling and optimization across target platforms
- Lead and mentor engineers on the project team, fostering their professional growth
- Run engineering rituals, including sprint planning and technical code reviews
- Escalate resourcing or capability gaps to production proactively
- Provide honest engineering assessments to support hiring and team growth initiatives
- Act as the technical voice in client conversations, representing engineering with clarity
- Partner with the Senior Game Producer to align technical scope with the project schedule
- Surface trade-off decisions early, providing clear recommendations
- Maintain client confidence in Devoted Studios' engineering standards
Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 4 years in AAA or mid-tier game development
- 2+ years as a Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, or equivalent, with ownership of technical direction
- At least 2 shipped commercial titles as a lead or senior contributor on PC, console, or both
- Deep Unreal Engine 5 expertise: C++ at an architectural level, Blueprint proficiency, and engine subsystem familiarity (rendering, physics, gameplay framework, GAS a strong plus)
- Strong C++ fundamentals, including systems design, memory management, and performance reasoning
- Experience leading small engineering teams and growing engineers' craft
- Comfort in client-facing environments, capable of holding technical conversations with client engineering leads
- Remote-first discipline, including strong async communication, documentation habits, and written English skills
- Experience in a co-development or external development studio environment (Preferred)
- Multi-platform development experience, including console certification and platform compliance (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo) (Preferred)
- Online multiplayer systems, dedicated server architecture, or live-service game experience (Preferred)
