Job Description
Arnett & Burgess Energy Services is seeking a dedicated Payroll Administrator to join their Accounting team in Calgary for a 6-month term, with the possibility of extension.
This role is crucial for managing the in-house processing of multi-provincial payroll within a fast-paced oilfield construction environment. You will be responsible for ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and strict adherence to company policies and all relevant legislation.
The ideal candidate will excel at managing competing priorities, be adaptable, and capable of working independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism and meticulous attention to detail. Support for the team beyond regular payroll duties will be required at times.
Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Complete bi-weekly payroll processing for hourly employees and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate and complete employee payroll records, including processing new hires, rehires, changes, and terminations.
- Ensure compliance with government legislation, particularly for Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, regarding payroll, deductions, benefits, and taxation.
- Process payroll accurately and within deadlines in a high-volume setting.
- Prepare Record of Employment (ROEs), T4s, payroll reconciliations, and government remittances.
- Respond professionally and promptly to employee payroll inquiries.
- Collaborate with HR, accounting, and operations teams on various payroll-related matters.
- Assist with audits, reporting, and administrative tasks as needed.
- Create, maintain, and manage spreadsheets and customized reports.
- Provide support to other departments and assist with additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous payroll experience, preferably in the construction or oilfield industry.
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and CRA requirements, with a focus on Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
- Working knowledge of WCB requirements for subcontractors in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, including interprovincial coverage and clearance.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
