Job Description

Automattic is seeking dedicated Happiness Engineers to join our fully remote team and champion the customer experience. In this pivotal role, you will engage with customers for approximately six hours daily, providing expert assistance via email and live chat. You'll be an integral part of a highly communicative and collaborative environment, leveraging Slack for constant peer support.

Your responsibilities extend beyond direct support; you will proactively identify potential customer issues, drive efficiency improvements within support processes, and pilot new initiatives like customer onboarding calls. This role offers a dynamic work environment where continuous learning and adaptation are key, as customer needs and service norms constantly evolve. You'll have the opportunity to influence product development and enhance the overall customer journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide customer support via email and live chat for approximately six hours per day.
  • Engage in continuous communication and collaboration with customers and teammates via Slack.
  • Proactively identify and address potential customer issues.
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements in customer support processes.
  • Pilot new services, such as customer onboarding calls.
  • Advocate for customer needs internally to improve tools and products.
  • Mentor peers and contribute to team development.
  • Work 1-2 weekend days per month, with equivalent flex days off during the week.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with WordPress and/or WooCommerce, beyond personal website building.
  • Proven experience in technical support, customer experience, or customer success, ideally with high-volume end users.
  • Demonstrated initiative and impact in previous roles, such as boosting retention or creating efficient solutions.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of building trust with diverse user groups (developers, agencies, enterprise clients, non-technical users).
  • Fluent English proficiency (multilingual abilities are a bonus).
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently, manage workload, and meet deadlines without heavy oversight.
  • Unique expertise in areas such as technical troubleshooting, e-commerce, leadership, or operational management.
