Job Description

NAFFCO is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Fire Chief to lead its emergency response operations.

This critical role involves providing comprehensive leadership for fire and emergency services, ensuring the utmost safety of individuals, property, and organizational assets across all sites.

You will be responsible for overseeing firefighting, prevention initiatives, and emergency response protocols. This includes developing and maintaining robust emergency plans, managing departmental budgets and resources effectively, and fostering a proactive culture of safety, resilience, and continuous improvement.

Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with internal stakeholders, external emergency services, and regulatory bodies to guarantee compliance and ensure efficient incident management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate operational response to fires, alarms, and other emergencies, ensuring effective and safe incident management.
  • Develop and maintain incident command procedures, defining clear roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths.
  • Ensure appropriate deployment of resources, equipment, and personnel during incidents and conduct thorough after-action reviews to capture lessons learned.
  • Oversee fire risk assessments, prevention programs, and corrective actions to minimize fire-related risks.
  • Provide expert advice on building design, fire detection, suppression systems, and safe operating procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of statutory fire safety requirements and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Develop, review, and implement fire and emergency policies, plans, and procedures aligned with statutory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Prepare and maintain emergency response plans, business continuity interfaces, and site evacuation strategies.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurers, and external emergency services to demonstrate compliance and manage inspections.
  • Plan and deliver realistic training programs, simulated exercises, and joint drills with internal teams and external partners.
  • Promote fire safety awareness throughout the organization via campaigns, briefings, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent the organization at community safety forums and multi-agency planning meetings.
  • Produce incident reports, performance metrics, and management information for senior leadership and governance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing incidents, near misses, and audit findings.
  • Implement procedural and training changes to address identified gaps and enhance organizational resilience.

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualifications in fire safety, fire engineering, emergency planning, or a related discipline are desirable.
  • Substantial operational experience in fire and rescue services, emergency response units, or a similar environment, including leadership roles.
  • Proven experience in incident command, fire safety management, and multi-agency coordination.
  • Experience in developing and implementing emergency plans, training programs, and safety initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of fire legislation, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Competence in incident command systems, risk assessment methodologies, and emergency planning.
  • Ability to lead and develop operational teams with excellent decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills for engagement with senior leaders, regulators, and external agencies.
  • Budgetary awareness, procurement experience, and the ability to manage equipment and fleet maintenance programs.
